Life Stories Medical Clinic Northcote

What we do

General Information

1. Appointment structure

At Life Stories Medical, consultations are run by appointment only. This allows for more efficient workflow which translates into shorter waiting times. In general, standard appointments of 10 minutes will be allocated. If a longer appointment is required, please kindly call reception to advise of your request. This will be triaged and suitable arrangements will be made if necessary. Please also be mindful of the time allocated. It would be helpful it you could itemize and prioritize your issues. Running over the allocated time will impact on the next patient waiting, so we can all work together to make everyone’s day run smoother.

If a special type of appointment is required, please let reception know in advance so that appropriate resources can be allocated for the task.

These include but are not limited to the following:

- Vaccinations for adults and children

- Wound care

- Minor procedures

- Complex paperwork that consists of more than 2 pages for the doctor to complete (ie. medical reports, Centrelink forms, etc)

Please note as of 10 July 2023, we would not be accepting or managing any new Workcover or TAC related matters.

2. Telehealth arrangements

Current Medicare requirements generally require 1 in person consult in the past 12 months to allow a Medicare rebate to be claimed for the telehealth consultation. Notwithstanding Medicare’s requirements, we would preferably still like to see our patients in person at least once within a 12 month period to adequately maintain the therapeutic relationship. If Medicare requirements have been met, feel free to book a telehealth consult if you feel that your issues can be managed adequately without a face to face visit. If unsure if your needs can be met through telehealth, please enquire further with reception.

3. Consults When You Are Overseas

If you are overseas, we will be unable to facilitate a consultation and we recommend making arrangements with a local doctor to assist with your matter. Upon returning to Australia, you may then wish to make a follow up appointment at our clinic.

4. Urgent requests and walk-ins

We understand that at time, there are urgent issues that you need us to address in a timely fashion. If there is an urgent request, please kindly phone reception. Walk-in attendances will be triaged and if deemed a medical emergency, will be attended to promptly or be sent to Emergency. Non-emergencies will be allocated a suitable time for follow up.

Emails would be checked intermittently throughout the day, therefore request for service through email may not be attended to as timely as expected.

Please note that the best way for your issue to be addressed would be via an appointment with the doctor, no matter how trivial. Scheduling an appointment will allow for a dedicated time to be allocated for the task and allows your issues to be addressed as best as possible.

5. Late and non-attendances

If you are running late, please let reception know as soon as reasonably possible to allow us to make alternative arrangements to best accommodate you. Please note that if you do not inform our office in a timely manner, we may not be able to make any immediate concessions upon your arrival.

If you are unable to make your appointment, we highly encourage you to let us know at least an hour before your scheduled appointment time. Please note penalties are applicable for late cancellation (1 hour before time of appointment), late rescheduling (1 hour before original time of appointment) or non-attendances.

Further information

Further information can be found in the Patient Agreement Document which can be accessed from the resources section of our website. If further clarification is required, please kindly inquire with reception.

Family medicine

We aim to provide comprehensive care across a broad spectrum of ailments. These range from providing direct management or coordinating your care between other stakeholders. This is the heart of who we are and what we do.

Preventive care

It is commonly understood that “Prevention is better than cure”. Different stages of our lives would have different health needs. For example, a health check for those at risk of chronic disease at 45-49 years of age would set the stage right for the far future. Invest in your health today for a brighter tomorrow.

Chronic disease management

Unfortunately, sometimes life catches up to us or we have been dealt a bad hand. Living with chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease can be difficult but being on top it may make things manageable and improves your sense of wellbeing. You just have to take one small step in the right direction.

Mental health

We live in difficult times and things may simply get overbearing. Whatever burden you carry, it is always better to share it with another to lighten the load that’s on your chest. A close confidant can be the first port of call but in times of greater need you may require a more tailored solution.

Vaccinations

Vaccination is the process whereby the body’s immune system is exposed to an agent to improve its defence against a specific disease. We stock vaccinations offered by the National Immunization Program. For private vaccinations outside the scope of the National Immunization Program, a script would be provided for the vaccine to be procured from a pharmacy, which then can be administered in the clinic.

Minor procedures

We offer minor procedures which generally include the following:

I) Biopsies and removal of skin lesions (largely excluding that of the face, hands and feet)

II) Suturing of minor wounds.

III) Cryotherapy of minor skin lesions

IV) Ear wax removal through water irrigation, suction or curettage

V) Implanon insertion and removal

VI) Removal of ingrown toenails

All procedures require a preliminary consult. During the consult the doctor will discuss both the procedure and book in a suitable appointment for the procedure to be conducted.

This would allow us to allocate appropriate resources for the procedure in question.
